Now that classes have met at least two or three times, it’s quite possible you’re curious about setting up a time for office hours with your professors. We encourage students to meet with your professors when you have questions about something covered in class, about an assignment, about other class logistics, or to connect regarding questions regarding their areas of expertise.

When you’re ready to meet for office hours, do you know how to set up a meeting?

Since professors have varying preferences about how you sign up for office hours, the best way to figure this out is by looking on your syllabus. A professor’s preferred way to set up office hours should be on the first page or two of the syllabus, but be sure to keep looking if you don’t see it there.

Some professors at King’s prefer to use the sign-up sheet method, so anticipate finding their office after class or while you’re on campus to sign up for a time on his/her office door. Others prefer to schedule via email.

Be sure to look at your syllabus thoroughly before giving up and just emailing professors. They receive lots of emails, so it’s appreciated when students have referred to the syllabus before consulting professors directly.

If for some reason you don’t see this information on the syllabus, a good next step could be to email the Faculty Assistant for the class to ask about the best way to set up a time to meet with your professor.

Your faculty are at the heart of the King’s experience, so be sure to reach out to them. Now is a great time to practice having these conversations, especially when you have a question or a special interest in the class.
